Moscow Christmas Light Festival 2018 – Modular Light Sculpture
For the Moscow Christmas Light Festival 2018, I was responsible for the design and visualization of a large-scale, modular lighting installation intended as a central decorative element in the city’s holiday landscape. Commissioned by the Moscow City Government, the project was part of a wider initiative to enhance public space through immersive, atmospheric light-based interventions during the winter season.
The object – a large, illuminated modular structure – was designed to function as both a sculptural focal point and a navigable urban element, inviting pedestrians to enter, pass through, and engage with it from multiple angles. Drawing on radial symmetry and organic geometry, the form combined a festive aesthetic with practical adaptability: the modules could be arranged and scaled for different urban contexts, making it suitable for deployment across multiple public spaces.
I developed the core structural concept, visual language, and lighting scenarios, producing high-fidelity visualizations and technical design documentation for client approval and physical production.
Highlights:
- Designed a scalable, pedestrian-scale modular light sculpture
- Developed visualizations for daytime and nighttime appearance, including interactive light dynamics
- Created modular geometry enabling flexible site adaptation across the city
- Integrated both symbolic ornamentation and functional public interaction
